Travelling to Brunei Darussalam

Travel Advisory

All foreign visitors entering into Brunei Darussalam must have a valid passport or travel document, as well as onward tickets and sufficient funds to support themselves while in the country.

Some foreign visitors might also need a visa before entering into Brunei Darussalam.Visa arrangements and requirements may vary by nationality. The length of validity of the visa is a maximum of 3 months.

Visa Arrangements:

Certain countries are exempted from the visa requirements for social, business, or professional visits depending on the number of days. Whilst certain countries might need to obtain visas beforehand from the High Commission to enter Brunei Darussalam.

Visa Application Requirements:

  • The visitor should have a valid passport or travel document recognised by the Government of Brunei Darussalam and the passport must have a validity of 6 months before expiry when entering Brunei Darussalam with 4 blank pages.
  • Complete visa application form
  • One (1) recent passport size photograph
  • Provisional flight booking or itinerary; (Do not purchase any ticket until your visa is issued)
  • Recent official letter from your employer
  • If you are a student in the United Kingdom Please submit an original letter from your school or university confirming your status and the duration of your course.
  • For Business visit: An invitation letter from your business counterpart in Brunei Darussalam stating the purpose of your visit.

For Social visit: if you are staying with your Bruneian friends or relatives who works in Brunei Darussalam, an invitation letter from them are required.

  • Proof of your hotel booking.
  • Evidence that you have sufficient funds to support yourself during your stay in Brunei Darussalam i.e: recent Bank statement
  • Visa fees will be depending on the monthly fixed exchange rate of Brunei dollar to Pound Sterling. Please contact the High Commission for the exact fees. All payments must be in form of cash (exact money) or postal order payable to ‘High Commission of Brunei Darussalam in London’Checks are not accepted and visa fees are not refundable.
  • Stamped and Self-Address envelope Recorded/Special Delivery (if application submit by post)

Visitors are advised to submit the above documents to the High Commission at least 30 days before travelling to Brunei Darussalam. This is to take into account any applications which may need to be forwarded to Brunei Darussalam for further processing.

Completed applications are advised to be presented to the High Commission in person or by a representative. Applications can also be submitted by post (Recorded/Special Delivery mail) however, applicants are solely responsible for the safety of their passports that are sent by post.

Transit:
A 72-hour transit visa issued on arrival is also available (rules and regulations applies). Kindly contact the High Commission for further details.

Employment:
For those entering Brunei Darussalam for employment purposes, visas cannot be granted without a valid work permit issued by the Department of Immigration and National Registration in Brunei Darussalam. Visitors are not allowed to engage in full/part-time work without permission from the Director of Immigration. Please contact the High Commission for further details and requirements.

Note 1: It is procedure for the High Commission to forward some visa applications to the Immigration Department in Brunei Darussalam for further consideration.
