Emergency Certificate (Sijil Darurat)

Travel Advisory

Bruneian citizens who have lost their passport while visiting United Kingdom or neighbouring countries could apply for an emergency certificate (Sijil Darurat) through the High Commission. This certificate is a one-way travel document to be used for return travel to Brunei Darussalam.

An application form for registration can be requested from the High Commission and should be returned complete with the following documents:

  • Explanatory letter to apply and reason staying in the United Kingdom (in Bahasa Melayu), addressed to the “Pengarah Imigresen dan Pendaftaran Kebangsaan, Negara Brunei Darussalam melalui Bahagian Konsular, di Suruhanjaya Tinggi Negara Brunei Darussalam di United Kingdom”
  • Two (2) copies of Brunei Passport (if applicable)
  • Two (2) copies of Police Report (for lost passports)
  • Two (2) copies of Brunei Identity Card (both sides) or Identification Certificate (if available)
  • Two (2) copies of applicants Birth Certificate (both sides)
  • Two (2) passport-size photos

A child of a Bruneian citizen born in a foreign country can also apply for an emergency certificate to be used for returning to Brunei. In this case, the application form and documents listed above should also be submitted with the additional documents:

  • Two (2) copies of parents' Marriage Certificate
  • Two (2) copies of parents' Birth Certificates (both sides)
  • Two (2) copies of parents' Identity Card’
  • Two (2) copies of parents' Passports
  • Two (2) copies offer/admission letter from present school/college/university (if studying) and scholarship letter (if any) or current letter from employer (if working)
  • Stamped and Self-Address envelope Recorded/Special Delivery (if application submit by post)

Completed applications are advised to be presented to the High Commission in person. Applications can also be submitted by post (Recorded/Special Delivery mail) however, applicants are solely responsible for the safety of their documents that are

Note 1: Bruneian citizens who travel to the United Kingdom for visit and business purpose, it is necessary to submit application and collection of the emergency certificate in-person at the High Commission.
